Catching up…

Good heavens, have we really passed the half-way point in November???  And no posts…Well, that’s the way things go, I guess.  My semester suddenly got more complicated in November after taking over one of my professors’ courses, as she is going on medical leave.  It’s not an enormous amount of extra work, but it means I have to be on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays, whether I will or no, and that impacts productivity in subtle but real ways.  Eh.  We’re almost done with regular class meetings, and I’m looking forward to the next few weeks so I can get a couple of chapters and an article done up properly.  It occurs to me sometimes that this is a blessed and privileged life to be able to lead–reading and writing on things you love and find fascinating, and the only pressures are to read and write more.  Ok, so we’re not going to be millionaires (well, at least I’m not…), but I’ll take this life over many others.  Of course, I say that knowing that I would never have the fortitude to last through a chemical engineering degree like some of my friends (to whom I take my hat off–seriously, I was just wearing a hat, and I took it off after writing those words.  Ok, hat is back on now).

And of course, being ill doesn’t help.  I reeeeeaaaally want to get back to practices and my physical regimen, which was proving quite successful this semester.  You know how it goes–first few weeks of September, you’re doing great, and then you slack off for a bit, and then a bit more, so by the end of term you’re back to where you were at the start.  So far I’ve avoided that.  Must continue!!!  As Larry Fitzgerald likes to say, “Faith, Focus, Finish.”

So, there is.  More news, stories, cfp’s, rants, and posts coming soon…
